Jane Langton It’s bad news. For most of us who began writing in the twentieth century, the turn of the millennium means finis. At midnight on the 31st of December we’ll suddenly be old hat, not merely a hundred years out of date, but a thousand. By definition everything, everything, everything will HAVE to be different. If we could guess HOW it will be different, in what way, in which direction, then maybe we could adapt, we could make the jump, we could write startling crazy new books in third millennium style, throwing off the dust of the past. The trouble is, there’s no way of knowing ahead of time which way to jump. Most of us are doomed. Jane Langton is the author of fourteen mysteries featuring Homer and Mary Kelly, most recently The Thief of Venice. |
